I am SO pleased with how this turned out. It fits him perfectly (except that it is a teency bit tight in the armholes). This was my first time ever putting in a zipper and feel that I did a good job. I first basted each side of the zipper (while closed) into each side. Then I whip stitched the edges of the zipper on the insides and then sewed down the center of each zipper half. It ain't budging!! I am really pleased that there is no buckling or weird stretching.
The only real modification that I made was to make the sleeves shorter. And I knit all the major pieces on a 101/2 instead of an 11.
Really not much more that I can say. It took me almost two years to complete this, but I am glad that I did. It definitely was the fear of the zipper. I love learning new things and conquering my knitting fears!
One project gets marked off my UFO list...
